  • When creating the Custom Poller select Rate as the MIB Value Type and the Units and Timeframe for that value. That will conver the counter values into a rate calculated poll by poll. Cheers, Dan
  • Sean, Depending on what aspects of an interface you want to be proactive on there are various counters that can be used. Besides the normal traffic statistics, Orion also collect Error and Discard information on interfaces. You can setup alerts on these properties to alert you when they cross a threshold number of your…
  • It may be that the MSFC2 card does not support the IfTable MIB. It may also be that SNMP Views have been enabled and are preventing that MIB from being polled on the card. When attempting to add the card as a node do you at lest have the ability to add CPU or Memory statistics for it? Cheers, Dan
  • Jon, The ConfigType is set in the two lines for Startup and Running. Startup and Running are defined when you choose which configuration it is that you want to download. In the example template ConfigType would be set to 'configuration' if you chose the SartUp configuration to be downloaded from within Cirrus. Best…
  • Magic_man, First I assume you have read through the installation documentation. If the issue is during the Configuration Wizard database setup, be sure and select the a new database and name it and locate it where you want it. The Configuration Wizard will take care of actually creating it. If the Configuration Wizard…
  • Jim, Much easier than that. When you look at the node details page for one of your APC's you should see a row of 5 small icons to the far right of the Node name at the top of the View. The first one is a blue circle with an arrow in it. Selecting this icon will bring up a browser wind point to the IP address fo the device.…
  • David, The Rediscovery process is not meant to add new interfaces or resources into Orion. It's function is to reconcile interface indexes in the database. When a switch re-indexes its interfaces the Redicovery porocess will read those new indexes and update the interface entries in the db with the new index numbers. As…
  • Worto, Currently Orion requires ICMP access to devices that it polls. It is the basic test to see if the device is reachable. I believe that our development group is looking to add an SNMP only Node addition feature in the future. I do not, however, have any timeline information for that feature. Cheers,
  • Magic_man, I run Orion on XP for testing purposes and it runs fine. I would not run it in production on XP, but it's fine for testing and kicking the tires on new versions and hotfixes. Cheers,
  • Euphorik, If you could get the resulting graph into a webpage format, then you could add a 'Custom HTML' resource to your Node View that would reference the page with the graph that you want. I am not familiar with Cricket so I do not know all of its capabilities for output. Cheers,
  • Josh, Interesting topic. Myth 1: Not sure what you mean by that. Orion can easily use a Clustered SQL backend for the database. Orion can monitor individual nodes in a cluster provided they are reachable. Myth2: VMWare servers can be monitored provided they are IP'ed and have an SNMP agent running on them. It may be that…
  • Craig, I'll ask the obvious just to make sure, but did you install the latest release of the Wireless pack on your Orion system? If you have I would make sure that your SQL database Collation is set to the default of SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS on the Orion database. If that is correct as well I would suggest opening a…
  • ACDII, If I understand you correctly, essentially all SNMP statistics collection stops yet ICMP based status polling is still continuing? If this is the case I am curious if the behavior started after the addition of some nodes. There were rare instances in the 7.x series where a bad response form a device could cause the…
  • Orion and the associated database server can utilize a SAN storage backend, however, it needs to be designed with high write performance and high transaction counts in mind. Utilizing an existing SAN that was implemented with other lower transaction count applications in mind will likely cause performance issues for Orion…
  • Gerjan, Orion still does not have an auto-discovery capability. The possibility of things running amuck and a service like that importing nodes is a concern. If you only have an SL2000 flavor of Orion and an auto-discovery imports enough elements to max your license it could be quite a surprise. There are products like…
  • I have not seen that on my own systems. You may want to engage Solarwinds support to look deeper into that error. Cheers,
  • Micah, It may depend on the configuration of the home page of your Orion website as well. If you monitor the COM object call times you may see which resource on the website is using the most resources. If you reconfigure the home page based on the information gather by looking at the call times, you may be able to reduce…
  • This may seem an odd question, but is the server a 64 bit based system? Cheers, Dan
  • JDS, Have you tried editing the resource to select a different gauge or graph? Cheers,
  • Bob, Be sure to adjust the ASP script timeout. By default it is set to 90sec. Open up IIS Manager. Right clickick on the Orion website listing and select Properties. Then select the Home Directory tab. On that screen near the bottom will be a Configuration button, select it and an Application Configuration window will pop…
  • Steve, Are they particular typse of interfaces that do not list? You can try cross referencing the list resources output withh a raw dump of the IfTable via SNMP. It may be that htoose particular interfaces are not listed in the IfTable. If this is the case Orion would not see them. Cheers,
  • Ron, At this time I believe the simple answer is no, there is not a way to have the subs reflect the primary. Orion gets the interface status directly from the ifTable on the device and does not look at the status of other interfaces. Cheers,
  • duyhtb, Two directions you could go. Go through the Apache documentation and see if you can find something in there, or use the SNMP MIB Walk application in the Engineers Toolset to walk the server and see if it comes back with any Apache related information. There is also a third option, check on the Apache message boards…
  • Matt, I believe the article you found is on track. I have not seen this myself but it appears logical. Cheers,
  • I wish I had a definitive answer for you, but all I know is that numerous customers have seen similiar behavior on Windows systems. Cheers,
  • Dan, According to the case notes contact has been made since the escalation. Please be aware that once a case is escalated it can take some time for the next engineer to review all of the information that has been gathered. The engineer may also consult with others in the team or with development staff in an effort to have…
  • Stephen, The Alerting systems within Orion allow for this sport of suppresion. If you click on the Suppresions tab in either alerting system you can create a dependency to prevent those alert storms. The Administrators guide covers this topic as well. Cheers, Dan
  • Gerjan, There is a utility called the Report Scheduler that allows you to do exactly that. It ia available under Additional Components when logged into Solarwinds.com with your customer ID. Cheers,
  • jds, As far as I know it requires SA priviliges. I agree it would be a good feature to allow it to connect without SA. Cheers,
  • Dan, If we are talking about the Advanced Alerts then you only need it running on a single system since it is Polling Engine Agnostic. Also make sure that the trigger delay has been set on the Trigger Condition screen and not eh Alert Action screen. Cheers, Dan
