Polling server constant 90-100% CPU usage

I have one primary server, and 2 extra polling servers. One of the polling servers has started to hit 100% since last week. It has 4 CPU's and 24 GB of RAM, and the other 2 servers don't even come close to 100%.

Is there anything I can check within my settings? Perhaps this particular polling server is saturated?

Start with the usual things - is that one poller running significantly more components? Are there large numbers of components/templates/nodes with higher than normal polling rates on that single poller? 4 cpu? It might need more cpu, sounds like you are on the verge of 8 cpu.

Its a new install, I would have no idea how to compare its components/templates/nodes with the other pollers.

What processes are consuming CPU, and how many elements are on it? Is polling completing?

Excellent Dashboard. @Slamdance beyond setting up that dashboard, some of those metrics are available in the admin section. Go to All Settings, then scroll down to the Polling Engine for quick stats on polling levels, and then the My Deployment (also seen under Settings) and go to Deployment Health. You will want to look for items that apply solely to the polling engine in question.

Also - things that make that server different, such as high levels of anti virus scans (slows everything down and eats cpu) for example. As @jm_sysadmin pointed out - what sorts of things are going on? There may be some reports on polling settings, but I am guessing that you are using default rates, which is good.

Solarwinds Collector Service, Solar Winds Information Service, SWJobEngine...They are at the top of the processes.

It has 2784 elements, 100% Polling complete.

Comparatively, the other Polling Server has 2800 elements and runs about 50% CPU.

I added 4 more CPU's and it goes right up to 100% used instantly. SolarWinds.JobEngine.Worker. If its not that, then its the Collector.Service slamming it.
