May I know what's the difference in the alert when a single node is put on Maintenance Mode and Mute?
I got confused in both Maintenance Mode and Mute so when to use which.

Maintenance mode stops monitoring a node whilst mute continues to monitor but simply silences any alerting.
Also worth noting is that if you maintain group membership or app monitors dynamically these may get dropped when putting into maintenance mode thus appearing to be new members when coming back out of maintenance mode, simply muting would have no affect on these.

OK, so if I just wanted to mute the alert, but keep the record of the triggered alert for reporting, I can then use Mute which seems to be simpler than setting the maintenance ?
If your alert was created with 2 actions (i.e., NPM log and e-mail notification), both actions are muted; I don't know of a way to mute an action.
