DISCLAIMER...I'M A NEWBIE...I've been tasked to determine if our organization can better leverage Solarwinds to manage our environments. Our SAs currently use Solarwinds to manage servers on more of an individual level, but, management would like to view Solarwinds reports by environment. Furthermore; we haven't been able to retrieve vital information like the total cores and threads that reside on a server from Solarwinds. This is a mandatory requirement. We have over 2,000 total servers, but, we need to manage them per environment. Each environment my run across several CDOMS/LDOMS/ZONES. This is the main relationship we need to manage as we are always moving LDOMS/ZONES to new CDOMS. Environment's contain (Oracle DB servers, Oracle Weblogic Servers, Oracle OAM servers etc...)
Here is the data required to produce a simple report:
++++PROGRAM -- Ex. The name of our overall project. Solarwinds monitors more than 1 product in our environment. (EX. FINANCIAL SYSTEMS)
**PARENT - This would be the "host" NODE_ID to represent CDOM/LDOM/ZONE association. Ex.LDOM NODE_ID 123 resides CDOM PARENT A.
*****NODE_ID - Currently able to retrieve this unique identifier from Solarwinds. But, how do we determine which NODE_ID's are parents versus children. (Ex. CDOM vs. LDOM).
*****SERVER_NAME - Currently able to retrieve from SolarWinds.
*****IP_ADDRESS - Currently able to retrieve from SolarWinds.
**DB_SID
**OS_USERS
++++ENVIRONMENT - Ex. Within our product (FINANCIAL SYSTEMS) there are multiple environment. (Ex. Production, PreProd, Dev1,Dev2, etc...)
**INSTALLED_SOFTWARE
!!! - CORES
!!! - THREADS
!!! - SERIAL NUMBER
KEY:
!!! = Vital Information. If we can't retrieve this information via Solarwinds we may have to rely on a different tool like Oracle OEM.
***** - Have successfully retrieved this data from Solarwinds.
** - Have not been able to pull this data from Solarwinds. Does it exist in Solarwinds? What Solarwinds product/products capture this data? This may be a custom field.
++++ - Custom field.
