Does Orion need SNMP traps from Windows servers being monitored with "Windows" option (WMI)?

Hello. I've learned that our Windows servers are sending us nearly 500 traps a second.

We monitor all of our Windows nodes via the "Windows" option. We do not use agents. My understanding is that this monitoring method uses WMI. Is that incorrect?

Does the Windows option for monitoring nodes also require SNMP traps?

We use the following Orion products:

Orion Platform HF2

SAM 2019.4

NPM 2019.4

NCM HF1

IPAM HF1

SNMP is not needed as long as WMI is working.

Did you inherit an environment with SNMP turned on in the Windows OS to forward traps to Orion?

There might be logic behind the decision, such as getting hardware or other trap data from other devices.

What kind of traps are you receiving?

Expanding on what hpstech said, it is definitely recommended to monitor Windows computers with WMI instead of SNMP. If you have successfully setup WMI monitoring, you should then disable or remove the SNMP service[s] on your Windows computers.
