This week we hosted a free seminar in Washington D.C. on how to expose and leverage some key Cisco technologies using SolarWinds network management software. Specifically, we covered NetFlow, IP SLA, Cisco EnergyWise, and the new Nexus 1000v virtual switch. You can view the slide presentation from the session here. The…
I have EnergyWise configured on my nodes and populating their power consumption into NPM. When running the Node Total Power Consumption Cost Calculations report, both Total Kilowatt hours and Energy Cost tables are empty. Where can I configure Energy Costs to begin populating these tables?
Next week we'll be in Washington D.C. delivering a free seminar on extending Cisco technologies. We'll cover some cool technologies like NetFlow, IP SLA, and EnergyWise. Full details and sign up information here. Also, there will be free food and I will try to come up with a new joke or two. The food should be good...…
The dev guys here have been working hard (as usual) and I'm pleased to announce that we now have new versions of Orion NPM (Network Performance Monitor) and NCM (Network Configuration Manager) available for download. For existing customers with active software maintenance these are free upgrades. For folks that haven't…
This Thursday we're hosting a new webcast on some of hidden secrets of Cisco IOS. Specfiically, we're going to dive into Cisco IP SLA, NetFlow, and EnergyWise. I'm pretty excited as my buddy Jimmy Ray Purser (co-host of Cisco TechWise TV, Network World Blogger, and Security Expert/hacker extraordinaire) is going to be…
We've just replaced all our old switches with new 2960X POE switches which support Energywise. I've enabled Energywise on all the switches and also added it as a polling entity in NPM and I can display the Node level Energywise details fine but I can't find any resource that shows an interface summary of which interfaces…

One of the things that I tend to talk alot about is how to raise the visibility of the IT and network engineering groups within your organization. If you get this right, not only will your job get easier but you'll find that getting budget approved for projects, staffing, and even pay raises takes a lot less effort. Calvin…
As a network engineer, you're no doubt intimately familiar with the various species of conventional network hardware and related equipment: servers, routers, cables, switches, and, of course, more cables. There's a lot of stuff that goes into a network, and eventually that stuff breaks, gets old, or just plain needs…
We recently upgraded a large number of our switches to an IOS supporting EnergyWise and have configured the credentials using SolarWinds however after you configure in bulk, it doesn't actually enable the monitoring resource in bulk! So my question is, how do you enable the EnergyWise resource on mass?
