Hi All, I am seeing a weird behavior off late. I have few new ESXi 5 version servers which are of this model: Cisco UCS B230 M2 Blade Server. Someone earlier than me had added these servers and they are being polled via Vcenter credentials. Recently we configured SNMP for these but when I list the resources I get the…
I am new to Orion and in the process of setting up nodes for monitoring through NPM. When monitoring my vCenter environment, is it better to poll ESXi directly or through vCenter? I see my ESXI 5.5 hosts listed twice in the Virtualization Summary. One for the nodes that are polled ESXi directly, and one through vCenter.
Hello, I am a new SolarWinds admin and I have been asked by our management to make use of the SNMP Contact and Location fields in my alerts. So this has been working fine until I ran into our VMware vSphere ESXi 4.1 and 5.0 nodes. These nodes were not reporting Contact or Location data. So my VMware guy and I spent the day…
Hi all- I've read through many posts detailing bits and pieces of the answer to my question, but I wanted to pose it wholly in order to make sure I understand, and see if anyone can suggest any other options. We deploy lots of separate, sandboxed projects with a few WinSvr2008R2 boxes and typically one instance of ESXi…
I have added my vCenter server and 'supposedly' all of my VMware/ESXi hosts into inventory using Network Sonar Discovery. Everything was found perfectly, and when browsing Settings > Node & Group Management > Manage Nodes.. *sort by Vendor* > VMware.. I am able to see all of my ESXi hosts as well as vCenter. Then when…
The only way I am able to get "VMWare Polling Settings" to return any data from the VMWare API is to use the root account for hosts run ESXi 5. Is this wise? Is there a least privelege guideline here? How would one go about creating a separate user account, whether local or Active Directory to provide enough access to read…
does anyone know how to setup snmp on an ESXI host through the vsphere client?
We are using Cisco UCS blades which have 10gb interfaces. ESXi 5 sees those interfaces as 10gb interfaces. However, in Orion NPM, it shows as 10mb. Support said this is normal and to call VMware. I have to override the bandwidth. Is this the case for anyone else? I have over 120 vNICS that I would need to set to custom,…
APM 4.2, We have recently upgraded from VSphere 4.x (where everything was working like gravy) to ESXi 5. The VCenters and the hosts have been successfully upgraded. However, after manual SNMP config on the hosts and working with credentials, I have not been able to get the hosts to report the same level of information they…
