Query regarding ESX/ESXi monitoring

Hi All,

I am seeing a weird behavior off late. I have few new ESXi 5 version servers which are of this model: Cisco UCS B230 M2 Blade Server.

Someone earlier than me had added these servers and they are being polled via Vcenter credentials. Recently we configured SNMP for these but when I list the resources I get the option of 'CPU and Memory' as unchecked. Even after checking it and submitting it automatically gets unchecked... :-(

So any reason why is this happening? Is it becoz these are being polled via Vcenter credentials? I verified other servers and for them I am able to see the CPU/mem data.

This is not a bug - you're right pratikmehta003, it's because it's being polled via vCenter. It could be made more apparent why in the GUI though. Quote from a recent support ticket I opened:

With regard to your issue about list resources. This is by design because the CPU/Memory is already being monitored via VMware API. The CPU and Memory is already being processed by VIM so it makes no sense to check the resource.

Also I observed that this is happening for ESX's which are being polled via Vcenter. I changed for few from Venter to directly ESX host and the option of 'cpu and mem' in list resources is not disappearing.

But still I would like to know the real reason behind this? is this is a bug or something else...
