Is there any update on this? It would seem rather simple to add another checkbox allowing just the collection of stats on an interface. This would be extremely helpful.

I agree, this would be a great addition...

Yep - that would rock.
Considering Orion is licensed per element, or per-interface in this instance, you'd think it would be in their best interest to satisfy this feature request.
Agree, i would love to see this feature in the next release
I agree with all of you. I asked fro this back in release 7.0. A simple check box to NOT monitor up/down status would be the best. Our scenario is such that with our 700 some servers, our server switches need to be monitored for stats but not for status, as mentioned in one of the other messages for end-users.
A check box tothe RIGHT of the interface for STATUS monitoring would be a good design, with a SELECT ALL for STATUS box in the right column. If one were to select ALL FOR NON-STATUS monitoring and then choose the ones that should be monitored manually, the issue would be fixed. Just my 2 cents worth.
Strongly agreed -- Statistics collection only without status monitoring would really be very helpful, to prevent pollution of my network maps and alerts.
If I understand correctly, this would also solve my issue with force monitoring interfaces not in an up/up status.
Having to come to a seemingly quasi-supported forum to ask for future requests seems a bit unprofessional to me. I am about to start rocking the boat, not here obvioulsy. See my post in this forum "Forced Polling on Non Up/Up Interfaces" that has yet to be replied to by a Solarwinds employee.
I also don't care for the blinking red icons, and if we can kill two birds with one stone then this seems like a great request, and I will press the issue.
Any response on this yet?
I'm looking at the original problem, and you want to alert on a down state for some interfaces but not others. That's very possible today using custom properties. Label some interfaces "Critical" and other interfaces "NotSoMuch". Then add "custom property=critical" as another condition on your alerts.
Although you will still see that status as down on the web, you can use filtering in your resources to do what you want. For instances, you can add two instances of a resource and filter one to show Critical interfaces only.
Does that address the original issue?
We still the have the "wrong" icon on the nodes in the Tree Views and so on. (Blinking red dot's)
Do you have a suggestion for filtering on the "Nodes with problems" resource, so that Nodes which only has down interfaces marked as "NotSoMuch" down doesn't list here? but gets listed if interfaces marked "Critical" goes down.

( PS Would also make a reminder of the actual fact that this in many cases reduces the amount of interfaces customers enable monitoring on, due to the fact that you loose the overview of the Critical aspect, we held of our upgrades over a long period because of this.)
I think you'll need need to write a SQL statement. I'm not a SQL guy. Can anyone in the community offer any advice?
This isn't a SQL issue. Denny.
We can always opt not to send an email notification based on advanced alert criteria (This is very easy to do) - but rather a node appearing as "down" on the maps. As an example here, I'll have an icon for my major cities, with each building within the city as child map objects.
If any "noncritical" interface was down, the entire city appears yellow, signifigantly increasing the false negative alerts. At this point We are ignoring the colour of monitored nodes in Orion.
All we want is a way to ignore the up/down status of a node, perhaps always return them as 'statistical' only. This has forced some of us to set up completely new Cacti instances just to monitor server port error & bandwidth statistics as to not corrupt the rest of solarwinds.
My original question has not been addressed.
I have an interface on a device that is enabled to be viewed AND I want to collect statistics on it when it is UP, BUT I do NOT want to have it monitored for an UP/DOWN condition on the WEB page.
Obviously, I will not alert on this interface. So any Custom Property does not apply here.
Simply stated, I would still like a "Check Box" for "Do not Monitor for Status".
Sorry if I was not so clear the first time around.
As Denny mentioned we are adding Unplugged in an upcoming release along with the ability to unmanage interfaces. Your use case is still being tracked on the roadmap for consideration for a future release.
I'm happy to note that it is being done.
Please let us know when this is available.
Thanks!
Has there been an update to this? We're trying to gather stats from certain devices, but we don't care whether they are up/down. This is video conferencing equipment on a cart that might be unplugged from the network days at a time. We have quite a few of these (and adding more every month) and I don't care whether they are off the network.
thanks,
Geoff
The feature that is being discussed here is available as of NPM 9.5. Assuming you're running NPM 9.5, is it not working for you?
