Hello,
In our network we have several thin AP and we want to create an alert to warn us when we disconnect any of the network controller. The problem is that we can't register them. Any suggestions?
Regards
Solarwinds includes an out of the box alert for when a thin AP goes down. I use it for my Cisco AP's. Works great.
Hi superfly,
I have enabled the out of the box alert and it's not firing. We are using Cisco 2800 AP's with WLC 5520. Did you have to modify the alert?
Thanks!
No, the alert will trigger a event log message.
On your WLC5520 node summary page, can you see all the associated AP's with it?
Hi, Thanks for replying. I opened a case and we ended up adjusting the alert so that the Wireless Access Point Stauts is not equal to Up. The default on the alert was set to Down, and that was never being met because when the AP was going down, Orion was reporting it in an Unknown state.
Thank you for your post. Firing alerts using "AP Status is not equal to Up" seems to work fine. The reset condition however is only fired extremely rarely: "AP status is equal to Up".
Using something like "AP status is not equal to Down" is no solution as it does not signal that the AP is fully functional again.
How does your reset condition look like?
EDIT: Another approach would be to add the (Lightweight) APs as Nodes to Orion (ICMP only). However this consumes a lot of the available license slots for NCM.
We ended up disabling the alert and relying on Prime for AP alerts. We were getting alot of false positives on the AP is down alert.
