Custom Links - Node Details and SNMP Pollers

Question

Had an interesting thought - I use several custom pollers on my server systems, one of which pulls the service tag or serial number from the system. Solarwinds automatically links these values to a chart. Naturally, this link is pretty useless for a serial number. However, it would be pretty cool if I could make a custom link that could go to the vendor's web site and give me the warranty or system configuration. Anyone have any idea if this is possible?

Off the bat, I assumed it wouldn't work, so I was going to try using Custom HTML. After some searches around the forum, it looks like you can't insert the custom poller variable into the Custom HTML module in order to make the link work.

This is kind of an odd request, but it would be useful, since that's my main purpose for polling that information. I'm open for other ideas, if anyone has any other creative ways to integrate something like this.

Hi there, Been looking at trying to get the custom MIB info out to another webpage just like this - specifically so I can check the HP server warranties - I just gave this a try and ALMOST got it working - but it seems the script passes some extra characters to the webpage. When passed to the HP webpage it seems to add "+" signs to the end - eg: serial number: <10digit serial number>++++++ product number: +++ Normally the HP SN# is 10 digits and the Product number is 6 digits plus a dash and then another 3 (123456-123) Any idea why or how I can fix this? Well, since we're not collecting the same info as you, and I don't know the exact syntax of your URL, I'll just take a SWAG at it. The best test I was able to perform with it in our environment was to pull a value from one of our custom pollers, insert it into an iframe URL within a custom resource on a node details view, then rely on the error message from the website I was using to test (SolarWinds.com) to verify that the correct value was used... And it seemed to work.

Strip the .txt off the attached resource file and copy it to your ..\InetPub\SolarWinds\NetPerfMon\Resources\NodeDetails directory.

In the attached web resource, You will notice a SQL "Select" statement that includes the following:

CustomPollerAssignment.PollerID = '{3824D0AE-04AB-4188-B1FF-7F237C9D097E}'

You will need to either use the SolarWinds Database Manager or SQL Server Management Studio to get the exact "PollerID" in the "CustomPollerAssignment" table that corresponds with the custom poller you are using to collect the service tags. Once you have that, just replace the values between the single quotes in the query with your actual PollerID.

Next, you will need to replace the URL in the iframe with the appropriate URL, and format it such that the "<%=SQLResource0.GetProperty("Service_Tag")%>" variable is exactly where you want the service tag inserted.

Finally, add this web resource to your node details view, cross your fingers, and test it out.

I also included an "If" statement that will only make the resource visible for devices that have a collected value for this custom poller. The others shouldn't see it at all. Since this is an iframe, you may also want to adjust the height and width parameters to suit your needs as well.
