Happy to announce that the Patch Manager catalog now includes Flash PPAPI installers.
-Jamie
Any idea when the new Google Chrome installer ( Google Chrome 58.0.3029.81) will be released? It is not showing up in Software Publishing.
Also, Java 8u131.
Both should have been released last week. Chrome on 4/20 and Java on 4/19. Looking into it now....
Thank you. I manually up with the synced up with the PM catalog and now both of these are showing. Weird, but it worked.
Thanx again!
Do you have support for other languages than english in your patches ?
Hi Martin - the Patch Manager catalog only provides English updates. However, it is possible to edit our packages in order to deploy non-English versions. You can also create custom packages for any vendors we don't include in our catalog.
First step is to adjust the Prerequisite Rule of the package. The 'Windows Language = English' rule ensures that non-English packages are ignored by English systems. Simply right click on the package you want to edit, when you get to the prerequisite rules section, double click on the Windows Language = English rule & adjust from there.
On the Select Package screen, update the download URL to point to the appropriate language pack (or if you already have the installer downloaded, you can select 'I already have the content' & browse to the installer).
Finally, adjust the Binary Language on the 'Select Package' window:
You then simply save & publish the package.
Adobe Flash player is up to 26.0.0.131 now. How soon will PM be updated with the new package? Thank you!
Hi Wayne - we are working on the Flash update, it will be in the catalog tomorrow (06/21). Apologies for the delay.
Sorry for the late response. Thank you, I have already deployed this.
I noticed that the Dameware Mini Remote Control packages have not been updated in awhile. I logged on to the SolarWinds portal and a newer version is available for download.
Any idea when version 12.0.4 will be available in the PM catalog?
Thanx!
Still waiting on Google Chrome v59.0.3071.115.
Hi Wayne - we're currently working on updated Dameware packages. They will be in the catalog next week.
Thank you!!!
Hi Steve - this update is now in the catalog. Apologies for the delay.
Will the Dameware packages be available before the end of this week?
The PM WMI provider update seems to only be metadata. Are they being re-released?
Will we ever see a Dameware Mini Remote Control service package? We have updated the client on our machines we use to remote control other workstations, but now the service needs to be upgraded on all workstation clients.
Hi Wayne - Dameware MRC v12.0.4 should appear in your Patch Manager catalog. Can you kick off a synchronization and let me know if it's not appearing? When applying the Dameware MRC updates, make sure you select the appropriate version for your Dameware installation - Centralized or Standard.
Hi All,
We have added support for Wireshark to the Patch Manager catalog. Versions 2.2.1 - 2.2.7 are now available. There are fresh install and upgrade packages available, as well as 32-bit and 64-bit editions.
Please note that it is not possible to install WinPcap via Patch Manager, as WinPcap does not support silent installations. WinPcap will have to be downloaded and installed manually.
Well, the Dameware MRC client version 12.0.4 is working, what I am referring to is the actual Mini Remote Control service deployment. I can download it from SolarWinds, and I can also connect to a workstation and force the service upgrade. I was just wondering if it will be available to deploy via PM.
Apologies for the confusion. The MRC service installers are not included in the Patch Manager catalog, however you could create custom packages in Patch Manager to deploy the msi. Please see here for information on creating packages in Patch Manager.
Thanks for adding wireshark!!!
Jim
Thanx! I was able to successfully create and deploy a package for the Dameware MRC client.
: )
Any idea why a package would successfully install via Windows Update, but when you query the package to see if it is installed, it shows as failed?
Java 8 144 has been published, but after approval, it fails to install. The package shows as 'Not Applicable'. Has anyone else had this problem?
Not yet, i was about to approve it today.
Let me know how it goes if you don't mind.
Worked fine for me, installed it on 8 test machines so far and shows applicable to all our other machines.
Did you push the (Upgrade) version or the stand-alone version?
Java 8u144 worked for me as well. I used the (Upgrade) version.
Just for reference, I did not use the Upgrade version. If anyone else has used the stand-alone version, please let me know your results.
All 3 versions did not work for me and I had strange detection problems with 8u141. I ended up using PDQ deploy instead for 8u144 which worked fine
I pushed the upgrade versions, no issues so far.
I pushed 141 to my test machines with no issues, but deferred pushing it to all since 144 came out so quickly. 144 pushed fine to my test machines.
Love PDQ Deploy and Inventory! And their webinars are hilarious. Gotten excellent support from them so far and even won one of their floppy coasters for one of the webinars.
It seems like the applicability rules with the latest chrome and java packages are screwed up. They work when the software is not present, but not when an earlier version of the software is present. I've had to change these rules and re-publish. You might want to look into fixing these package rules.
Thanx teiresias this is exactly what is happening. I don't deploy the upgrade versions, I only deploy the versions that do not require an earlier version installed. Helps with new builds. Anyway, can you share what you changed?
Like stcain said, I was starting to look at PDQ Deploy as Java and Google Chrome were just not working for me.
In general I looked back at previous update applicability rules for packages that did work to get started, but I changed it a little bit for the chrome one.
Chrome x86 applicability rules( x64 is the same but with x64 for the architecture and use 32 bit registry=false):
If the image is too small to read right click and open it in a new tab.
Java:
I just deleted the Not File exists portion of the Applicability Rules.
same issue here with Java 144. looks like the applicability rules are screwed up for the "non upgrade" version.
Well, I am going to use teiresias post and modify the Java package. I did however test the PDQ Deploy and it worked great. I had to get this out and the Java package kept failing with 'Not Applicable'.
So the issue with Java 8.144 continues with Notepad ++ 7.5. It shows as 'Not Applicable'. I found the applicability rules as having the 'NOT' statement in them. I am unable to rely on PM at this point and have had to resort to using PDQ Deploy. Can someone at SolarWinds look into this?
Hi Wayne, sorry to hear you're having issues. Looking into the packages for you to confirm if there's any issues with the applicability rules. Will get back to you shortly.
When will the new version of Google Chrome (Version 60.0.3112.113) be released?
Was this something you ever sorted? I'm would like to push out Version 7.3, but it isn't available, 7.1.2 is the last update I've synced for Chrome.
Hi David - can you confirm which product you are referring to?
Sorry, I also noticed I put Chrome on the end, but I did mean Google Earth. This might be why the version numbers make no sense.
We are using Patch Manager, to push out third party patches. Google Earth is listed as an option, and we have set it to sync, but I've had no updates since 7.1.2. Looking on the forum that was the only update I could find with regards to Google Earth updates.
PM sent David.
Will the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Classic catalog contain Acrobat Reader DC 17 soon? So far, I just see 15 available.
Will you be making Java 9 available for the coming month?
Can "Apple icloud" be added to added to the apple products supported ?

Any idea when the new SW Dameware client (12.0.5) will be available on PM? It has been available from the SW Portal since August.
Hi Wayne - DameWare MRC 12.0.5 has been added to the catalog. Apologies for the delay.
anyone know what was wrong with Java 8u151 that Oracle rushed to release 152 today?
I think they have always had a version xx1 and a version xx2 of Java. For example, 8u91 and 8u91. From my understanding the "1" release/version only has security/bug fixes, while the "2" release/version has new features. I'm not an expert in this by any stretch, but both 151 and 152 were released on the same day.
Thanks for the clarification. Updates for Java SE Platform | The Java Source
Has anyone pushed out the latest Java install yet? It's great the msi uninstall is now included as part of the package, as I was adding that manually every time. However on my test machines it hasn't actually uninstalled anything. That includes my machine where I have local admin rights, let alone standard users. I was wondering if anyone else had a similar issue, or if it worked fine?
Hi David - are you using one of the 'upgrade' packages? Can you confirm which version of Patch Manager you are running?
So far I have tried the 'x64 upgrade' and 'x86 for x64 upgrade' both with the same results. The new version installs but the old one remains. I did double check the msi number but they are correct.
We are running version 2.1.3.4028.
I tested the 'Upgrade' version and it did not remove the older version (8.144)
That will not be good if the old version does not get removed using the uninstall switch that has worked in the past. Please confirm this works.
Hi Wayne - can you please confirm which version of Patch Manager you are running?
Sure. I am running version 2.1.5.6002.
This is from the details of the Java packages. Both Upgrade and Stand Alone.
I am also running into the issue of not being able to uninstall older versions. I have followed the guide on how to uninstall. i am using PM 2.1.5.6002. Has anyone had success with this feature?
Also, I am trying to use SolarWinds PM to install Java with update notifications disabled and am not having luck. I have read online that it may be best to use group policy or other method to get this accomplished but what i have read is a bit dated so I am wondering if SolarWinds has since added an option to use an update package to install with this feature disabled for java. I imagine since it is using command line install, it shouldn't be too hard but none of the flags that I have tried have worked. Has anyone successfully accomplished this using PM?
Sorry to hear that folks are having issues with the Java uninstallation. I'm looking into the issue and will report back shortly.
It's worth noting that the upgrade package for JRE 8u151 states:
"This x86 JRE package is created for installing on an x64 target and it requires a previous JRE v.8 already be installed. This release contains security enhancements and bug fixes. Note: By default, upgrading to JRE 8u151 from an older version of JRE 8uXX will not remove the older version of 8uXX, however you can follow steps in https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Patch_Manager/How_to_uninstall_previous_Java_8_versions_using_Patch_Manager’ to automatically uninstall previous versions." I have tried following the guide and also trying a couple different variations but have not had success. That is why I was wondering if anyone has had any success with it.
I hadn't realized the uninstall commands weren't enabled already. I just saw them there and assumed they would work. I'll give it another try tomorrow and let you know how I get on.
I am going to test the Java 8.151 deployment with the added option of removing the old version. I will let you guys know how it goes tomorrow.
So I had a webex session with SolarWinds Rep Jaime Hynds earlier today and we solved my issue. Wanted to share and possibly save someone some time. when using the uninstall option with Pm version 2.1.5 make sure you have only the Uninstall { "Package ID"} option checked and not the Run below to uninstall Java 8uxxx option. having the latter checked will cause the uninstall to fail.
Thank you much. I could see how people would confuse that and check all boxes but looking at it now thats a pretty good way to organize it and know what you are removing.
Thanks Sergio. We have updated the KB to make it clearer that you do not select the 'run below to uninstall options'.
Now I'm ticking the correct boxes it works fine! Thank you everyone for the help!
This is exactly what I needed. I tested this last night and Java 8.151 installed and version 8.144 was successfully removed! Thanx to all!
Ok, for Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, I see the updates for 2015 Classic. Will 2017 Classic be added to the catalog at any time in the future?
We are not currently using this tool, but I'm very glad that SolarWinds keeps updating it.
Hi! When you post the new Java versions, can you make sure to include
1. Java 8u161
2. Java 8u162
3. Java 9.04 (I think that is how it is named)
Thanks!
Java 8.161 upgrades were available as of yesterday, now just metadata. Can you publish these again?
Hi Wayne - there was a minor change required for 8u161 relating to the ability to uninstall previous versions of Java. You should see 8u161 packages available which were amended to allow the previous version uninstall functionality.
Happy Friday everyone! Question. With the new version of 7Zip, is there an option (Like Java) to uninstall the previous version of 7Zip? I tried using the Package Boot Manager but did not see the old version listed to remove.
Thank you!!
hdwrguy, i'll send you a direct message, but essentially: you have to specify the versions you want to remove yourself; it won't list them for you. (they do that for Java but not other apps)
Hello,
I would like to request:
1. Cisco Webex productivity Tools
2. Multi Commander (File Manager)
updates be added to patch Manager. Please let me know if this is possible. I have tried creating custom packages for these and have had some success but not reliably.
Thank You!
Sergio

Hi guys,
I was just wondering when you will be releasing Firefox 59.0.2 into PM?
Just uploaded to the catalog now.
Hello, maybe you are updating the catalogs?Because in the subscriptions only the apache product appears. Thanks in advanced.
Thank you. Can you also include Java 8u172 as well (and include the xx2 versions each time they are released)?
Apologies, 8u172 was uploaded to our catalog alongside 8u171. I've just updated the table above to reflect this.
Will the Adobe Acrobat DC Classic Track 2017 Catalog ever join the list for updates via PM?
Anyone else having issues with deploying Java 8 171? Version 8 161 had no issues, but when deploying this version it keeps coming up as not applicable.
I am trying to compare the two packages, but everything seems to be the same except for the version number.
Can you please confirm exactly which package you are trying to deploy? (e.g. x86, x64, etc)
Oh my, sorry. Yes, I am trying to deploy the x86 Upgrade and the x86 for x64 Upgrade.
Thanks - looking into the package logic now. Will report back shortly
Quick question. Has anyone deployed a Dell BIOS package to workstations that require a BIOS password? This process worked for a couple different models but is currently failing as the command line string is set to /s /r /p=PASSWORD. However, the next day I look and it failed. When I edit the package to check, the reboot and password switches are just gone.
We are working on adding support for the DC 2017 catalog, however you can add the catalog manually in the meantime. You can do this via Synchronization Settings-> Other Catalogs -> Add Catalog.
Link for the catalog:
http://armmf.adobe.com/manifest/arm-manifests/win/SCUP/AcrobatCatalog-2017.cab
Publisher: “Adobe Systems, Incorporated”
Name: “Adobe Acrobat DC Classic Track 2017 Catalog”
Description: “This catalog supports updates to the Adobe Acrobat DC Classic Track 2017.”
Awesome....adding it now! Thank you!
Well, I had selected 'Run Program' instead of 'Uninstall MSI'. Problem solved. Thanx for looking into this for me.
Ok, does this also include Acrobat Reader DC Classic Track 2017 as well?
And in my case I need to patch Adobe Acrobat 2017. We are running version 17.011.30080, but as far as I know, there is no patch in Patch Manager for Adobe Acrobat 2017.
