If I have 200 VMs on an ESX host, do I have to click on each VM and select "Manage Node" to get it monitored in Solarwinds? Is there a way to do this for all VMs on a host without going through every one?
Are you referring to monitoring each individual OS on the VM through SNMP or WMI or are you just talking about gathering VMAN data on each VM. Virtualization Manager will automatically collect each VM data when you poll the vcenter or ESX host. We do have some discovery features we are working on which can be found here: What We're Working On Beyond SAM 6.2 (Updated August 23, 2015)
I've questioned Tech Support with the same question. The only answer that I have been able to get is to do a network discovery and import them in. If you have a list of servers, you can "discover" the servers. Other options include using the network address.
I have opened a feature request to make it easier to manage nodes.
Thanks! I upvoted it. Seems like an easy feature to add.
Thanks for the reply. We ended up installing VMAN and it works great.
