Report - totals for grouped items?

Hi All.

Creating a report with grouping. Let's say I'm reporting Cats, Dogs, Birds with names. Example list has 3 Cat names, 5 Dog names, 4 Bird names

I can put an resource at the top of the report which breaks out the total number of Names, along with Cat, Dog, Bird names.

However... I would like to put the number of items on the same line as the group header, like.

Birds (4 items)

Polly

Maggie

Tweedy

Foghorn Leghorn

Does Solarwinds have the ability to include totals in the header line for each group in addition to one resource at the top. In practice I'm making a report of servers grouped by type in which each grouping may have a large number of devices. I want to put a 'number of ...' grouping element at the top of the report and number on the same line as the header for that group.

Using "normal" report features, no SolarWinds don't have that feature.

You could probably accomplish that by creating a fancy SWQL query that adds that info already in the query result.

@robert777 As Seashore said, you can use SWQL to do a simple count and push it into the caption, or wherever you want to show it.

This is a wee bit inefficient, but figured it would get the point across. There are probably many ways to get this info, or something similar, into your report, but it depends on how detailed you really need it, and where you want it. The more you include, the weirder it is to maneuver into place... At least for me anyway.

@robert777 I think this might be something closer to what you're looking for, at least compared to the example I provided previously.

JOIN (SELECT Vendor, COUNT(*) AS [VCount] FROM Orion.Nodes GROUP BY Vendor) AS [VendorCount] ON n.Vendor=[VendorCount].Vendor
JOIN (SELECT MachineType, COUNT(*) AS [MCount] FROM Orion.Nodes GROUP BY MachineType) AS [MachineTypeCount] ON n.MachineType=[MachineTypeCount].MachineType

I used the above SWQL to test for the example, keeping it simple by just using Vendor and MachineType to break out the numbers. You should be able to modify it to meet your needs, then dump that into a report and hopefully get the look you want.
