PowerShell Script running in SAM

Hi all,

I am new to SolarWinds SAM module. Our customer looking to run power shell scripts using our SAM module. I read multiple articles how to run PS script but i couldn't get how to update script arguments. We got Power shell script from our Vcenter team to run . using that script we want to login to Domain controllers via VCenter and extract some information. Can some one please help me on this? I feel completely blank in this. Below is the error i am getting.

So this script will be assigned to multiple nodes I guess? If so you will need to have the Node IP passed to the script as an argument. This looks an awful lot like an "Inventory" report for vSphere/vCenter that I saw years and years ago. That's not the purpose of SAM Script templates. Scripe templates can only return a max of 10 distinct data elements. If you want a running inventory, you should monitor the vSphere instances with something like Virtualization Manager, which does all this work behind the scenes for you.

100% a SAM template isnt the right place for this - It wants you to end with a Statistic and a Message and an Exit code, which a big array of VMs isnt. You could count some error from the VMs array and report that if you wanted.

So if you're after a SAM monitor you want to really change this around a lot, and think about some reduceable number to pull from the vcenter api.

Or if you actually want the VMs list, probably just add the vcenter as a node?

If there's a custom thing you want from the connection like what you've linked in a longer script below, maybe add that as a task on a server somewhere, and then export some data back to solarwinds using the solarwinds api/SWIS Powershell/Orion SDK

Thanks for the response. So i just want to understand that if we want to run power shell script in SAM, result should contain only limited number of values? can someone explain what is the criteria to run PS script in SAM.

And can we run power shell script in Solarwinds and read the script output- based on the output message, can we trigger alert? Is this something that can be achievable?
