Unable to receive SNMPv3 traps from our Building Management System on Windows server

Hello,

I am trying to add our building management server to Solarwinds with SNMPv3 creds, but no luck so far. I am able to monitor via WMI/agent, but this appears to not support SNMPv3 traps. Is there anyone out there who has luck working around this issue, or is using a third party SNMPv3 tool the only way around this? We do receive v2 traps, but regardless of v2 or v3, I cannot add the node with any community string or v3 credentials.

Yes we did a compare several times. All our other devices monitored with SNMP are non Windows devices, we little to no issues with those.

If you are monitoring the device with SNMPv3 then you should be able to receive V3 traps. Have you compared the SNMP creds/encryption on the device and in Solarwinds to make sure they match? We have hundreds of devices sending V3 traps.

Just to be clear are you trying to add the Windows Server via SNMPv3 or something specific to whatever building management app you are utilizing? Windows server doesn't support SNMPv3 and SNMP itself has been deprecated as of Server 2012.

I'm finding conflicting information on this, but we were attempting to add the Windows server via SNMPv3 as we weren't receiving any v3 traps when the node was added with WMI/Agent. We were however able to adjust the snmp service and add the server via SNMPv2, but that does not allow us to receive v3 traps still. It now looks like the best option forward is using third party software that essentially forwards the traps to Solarwinds.

If you cannot add the device via SNMPv3 then you cannot receive SNMPv3 traps. The credentials used to monitor a device via V3 are the same credentials used to decrypt the traps.
