Creating alert for all ports for some switches and for others only for 2 interfaces in 1 alert possible?

Greetings All,

A newbie to Solarwinds alerts and thus here for help please.

Looking to alert on interfaces going down, and for 1 set of switches am looking to alert on all interfaces, whereas for a 2nd set of switches, am looking to alert only for 2 specific interfaces.

We have both sets of switches differentiated with custom properties and the easiest way I'm thinking to alert on this would be 2 separate alerts.

Question, would however be possible to alert on both in 1 alert? Have tried it however without the ability to perhaps nest further conditions on the 2nd set e.g. thinking where node = switches in set 1, or (node = switches in set 2, but only for interface A or uncertain how to do this.

Is there a way, or would it perhaps just be better to go with the 2 alerts?

The group down alert would still work because you could include information in the alert notification that would identify the interface(s) that were actually down. As for whether any particular interface will be alerted on, that can also be accomplished using a Yes/No custom property. Assign a Yes value to the interfaces that should be included in the alert and then make sure that the alert Trigger Conditions include a condition requiring that custom property have a Yes value in order for the alert to trigger for an interface. Does any of this help?

This is an excellent use case for Groups. Create a group for each switch containing the interfaces on that switch. Make sure to choose "show best" as the status rollup method. That way, when you set up your "group is down" alert, it will only trigger when ALL interfaces in the group are in a down status. You will only need the one alert. Hope this helps.

Many thanks borgan. Gives me something else to look into.

Sorry if I didn't word it properly, however any thoughts on how to get a single alert, but covering individual interfaces going down? e.g. any single interface going down e.g. G1/1 on a switch in Group 1 would create an alert. However for Group 2, any specific switch in that group would only alert for ports G1/2 and G1/3. Looking to setup alerting on uplink ports only.
