I am working on updating some of our old Network Atlas maps to modern maps and was wondering what all needs to be enabled or turned on so network nodes auto connect. A majority of the Cisco nodes do auto connect and some do not.
I was looking over this https://thwack.solarwinds.com/product-forums/network-performance-monitor-npm/f/forum/89686/orion-maps-auto-connect-topology-not-working/286115#286115
But was wondering if there is a checklist that I can check in Solarwinds or if there are some things I need to discuss with the networking team.
Thanks! -Dave
Topology connections within Orion Maps are based on the NPM Topology engine and what it discovers.

If you feel you are missing connections, it is always beneficial to validate what connections were detected by reviewing the NPM Topology Widget. (Typically on the Network Tab of a Details View) and for some reason I cannot post a screenshot, but this should show you what connections would be present in Orion Maps. If there are unknown elements or interfaces on either side, those connections are not displayed by default in the map. There are adjustments to allow this if you need those in Centralized Settings, or you would just need to monitor the interface.
Your other option in Orion Maps is to define new topology connections by selecting two objects, using the Connect Objects tool, and adding those details via the editor. You can choose to do this for the map only, or to be reflected everywhere in Orion as well as future maps or topology widgets.
Thank you for the info!!
I also went into each node and checked to see if all of the interfaces were in Orion and some of them were missing. I selected them and I just went in and checked and things started connecting. So that was easy for a few of these. Thanks!
Another question @jblankjblank how do you share out maps or let others see them? I am trying to find out how to do this but I can't seem to find this info. Thanks!
Many different ways of doing this. Of course the easiest is configuring a Dashboard that these users will be accessing and adding a map widget to the Dashboard. The Map Management list view will be tailored to the user so unless you are an admin, you won't see all the maps. If you are wanting users to start out with a list, you could either use the User Links widget and just add the View Mode URL, or use a Custom Table Widget. In the Custom Table widget you could include status, and the map name, and then make sure to use the details link setting so that users could drill down on the name and be taken to the map!
I cannot post a screenshot, but this should show you what connections would be present in Orion Maps. Dollar General Survey
