Set custom property in alert action based on node variable and performing math on the vaule.

Ok so to clear this up I have created two custom properties on my nodes ProcQueLen_Warn and ProcQueLen_Crit. I have setup an alert so that if these are not populated (and only for my windows servers) I want an alert action to set the custom properties to be 10 times the CPU count value and 20 times the CPU count value for each.

No matter what I try either looking at the swisentry value and trying to do a multiplication action on that or using SWQL and trying to do it there it does not work. I have also tried to set the custom property as text and as an integer and no luck there either.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this to function.

Are the alerts actually firing and no change is being made or are the alerts never triggering in the first place?

Can you post screenshots of the alert trigger conditions page and the trigger actions.

I use many alerts like this and the biggest obstacles i tend to run into are unmanaged or muted objects, and once in a while if I set up a rule that tries to trigger on 1,000+ nodes at once it seems like I can jam the alerting service up.

I'll get some more details later tonight but for testing I added in a condition so that it was only targeting a single server.

With that the alert was triggering properly however I just couldn't get it to update my custom property the way I needed it to.

More info as soon as I can get good screen caps etc.

so for the alert trigger i have it setup right now to trigger if either of my custom properties are empty.

for the alert action i have it setup to update the custom property value and I am using either a SWQL or calling the SWIS variable

For the SWQL query I'm using:

SELECT CPUCount*10 AS [WARN] FROM Orion.Nodes WHERE NodeID = ${NodeID}

For the SWIS query im using:

${N=SwisEntity;M=CPUCount} or ${N=SwisEntity;M=Stats.CPUCount} and then trying to multiply on these

like (${N=SwisEntity;M=CPUCount})*10

so if i set my custom property as a text field I end up getting the SWQL query if that is there and with the SWIS entity's i get the number of cores listed and then "*10" after it

if i format the custom property as an integer i dont get anything.

However in all cases i can 100% verify the alert is triggering, i see it listed in my alerts dashboard.
