Silent Re-configure of Agent in Windows

Configure agent via INI file - Forum - Network Performance Monitor (NPM) - THWACK (solarwinds.com)

Looking for information, how to re-configure a agent - using automated tools silently ,

Through GUI i am able to re-configure using Solarwinds,Agent,Setup.exe,

But looking forward for a silent command, that can re-initiate the agent. (through automated process)

Reason for above action:

At times when we move some agents from one APE to another APE, Agent loosing the sync and we are in position to manually re-configure the agent manually,

I've seen this issue before when migrating agent managed nodes between engines in bulk as well. I believe it's a bug in the code to be honest but haven't had to time to replicate and reproduce for a support case. I could only get the issue to occur when doing the change in bulk and I wasn't doing that frequently.

The issue at least for me that I noticed was, the nodes configured EngineID, did not match that of the agents configured EngineID. In the database -- they're separate values / configurations and if they don't match, polling of the agent completely fails.

You can query for this issue with 1 of two ways... first and foremost here's a SWQL query you can use within SWQL Studio to query for the issue:

    ,n.Agent.Engine.EngineID AS [Agent EngineID]
    ,n.Engine.EngineID AS [Node EngineID]

Additionally you can check directly in the database using Database Manager to query for this issue also with the SQL query below, assuming your database name is 'SolarWindsOrion'.

To resolve (while this certainly should come with a disclaimer.. and is probably best to work with SolarWinds Support on this issue anyway...), but you can run this query in Database Manager to resolve the issue. That's also assuming this IS the issue for you, definitely double check with the queries above before proceeding. The UPDATE query below will set the nodes EngineID to be the same as the configured Agent EngineID.

SET n.EngineID = a.PollingEngineId
FROM SolarWindsOrion.dbo.NodesData AS n
INNER JOIN SolarWindsOrion.dbo.AgentManagement_Agents AS a ON a.NodeId = n.NodeID

Again though, exercise caution when directly editing the database and always take a backup prior.
