auto dependencies feature not working as expected in solarwinds

Currently I am using Solarwinds NPM 12.0.1 Version where I enabled auto-dependency feature but it is not working as it should. When the Parent node (Router) goes down, tickets are still getting created for all child nodes, while it should create ticket for Parent node only. I will be thankful if anyone can suggest me possible workaround to this problem.

The auto dependencies are typically only going to get you 80% accurate relationships from my experience. You have to turn it on then go through all the relationships and verify the accuracy and fill in any gaps. Many devices don't support the necessary OIDs for Orion to establish the topology on its own.

Very thankful for your kind reply. The issue is not about the accuracy. The issue is after enabling the auto-dependency, when the parent node (Eg Router) goes down, Ideally it should suppress the alert for child node (Its switch). But in my environment its not working this way.

In my environment When the parent node (Router) goes down, it does not suppress the alert for its child node. and so we have tickets for all devices.

I think you need to think one two aspects here.

In case of dpendency enabled, when parent node goes down all the child members should be in unreachable state instead of Down. Check if this is working in your case

As you mentioned about tickets check the condition you have given for creating tickets and are in line with above.

Just my thoughts.

For some devices it is working. i.e : if the router goes down its child node is un-reachable. But for other devices when the parent node goes down the child alerts are not suppressed. Kindly help me please

Another thing to note with dependencies is that ALL parents of a child node have to be down.

If there is a second auto-dependency or user dependency for the child node and that parent is still up when the child goes down, the child will not be marked as unreachable.

For those child nodes going down, check if they have multiple dependencies.
