The Standard Poller updates all the columns every poll, ICMP or SNMP. Manually updating one of the standard poller columns well be overwritten with every poll. You need to use custom properties.
Hi,
The Location is discovered by SNMP using the OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.6 - sysLocation .
The Location might have been set through a Custom Property for the ICMP nodes.
Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Grouping and Access Controls > Custom Property Editor
Click on Nodes.
Let us know what you see there. Is there a property defining the Location of the devices?
If you edit the Resource that shows your devices grouped by Location. Could you tell us the exact name of the grouping field.
Is Location selected or a specific Custom Property?
In System Manager, Could you right-click on one of the ICMP nodes that is not in the Unknown group and select Node Details?
What are the values for Machine Type, Description, Location ?
Fields you see are from the nodes table including node custom properties.
HTH,
Yann
Hoping to bring this issue back to life.
We sort all devices in both NCM and NPM by the SNMP Location data. It's difficult enough to make sure they are identical in both applications as the refresh for NPM does not always work.
Anyway...
I thought myself clever as I tried to update the location in the 'location' field directly in the database. When I do this for an ICMP device, it works for a second, but something in the application appears to be overwriting the data as it goes blank again and my ICMP devices go back to "unknown".
Suppose the question for me to overcome now is: What in the application is overwriting the data in the location field for ICMP devices? If I can stop that from happening, we'll be good to go as we can just update the field directly through the provided Database Management tool or SQL QA. Can somebody tell me what is doing this?
Thanks!
