Orion backup

Hi all

I have NPM,SAM,NTA,VNQM,NCM,SRM,LEM installed and most of them are licenced. all these modules uses an SQL server installed on a separate box except LEM and SRM:profiler module. I believe LEM uses the local storage to store its data because there was no point where it asked me about storage settings during install/configuration phase. SRM uses orion local storage. so i want to know if backing up only the SQL is enough to retrieve Orion: settings, configs, alerts, mibs incase of crashing etc. or must i backup LEM box,orion box and SQL box.

Drivename:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\OrionWebBackup.exe

This application is used to Backup/Restore the Orion Web site Configuration. It backup A.C's, A.c limitations, Bakup views, etc.

I cant find that application in a given location. I cant even find Orion folder. i installed orion in a partition (D:\SolarWinds). please check the attached screenshots for more info;

What version of NPM and APM are you using?

Can you find the file in whole computer?

What you will want to do is bring up Configuration Wizard up to determine the SQL Server location and the database name.

Go to Start> Programs> Solarwinds Orion> Configuration Wizard

Select Database, then select Next

This will show the SQL Server IP or hostname and an account that the Solarwinds Server is currently using to authenticate to the SQL Server.

Select Next and it will show the currently configured Database Name that is in the system.

With these details, you will need to use Microsoft SQL Studio Manager to access the SQL Server. Microsoft provides this free from their site and the SQL ISO/DVD has SQL Studio Manager.

Once SQL Studio Manager is installed you can login to the SQL Server. SQL Studio Manager will allow you to make any changes to the overall database to include Backups, migrations, and run queries on the databases. This tool will also allow you to configure scheduled backups, re-indexing, database shrinking to help improve the overall performance and size of the database.

To Backup in SQL Studio Manager, Expand out Databases, then Right Click the Solarwinds Database (Defaults are SolarwindsOrion or NetPerfMon) and Select Tasks> Backup.

At the bottom change the destination to another location and set the extension of the file .bak.

Select OK. The Backup will take a few minutes. The progress bar will show percentage of completion.

I know how to do backup in SQL. my question was about what should I backup so that if It happens my system crashes im able to restore my full system working to its previous working state. settings,configs,alerts etc.
