Can you create a global variables for alerts?

I have an email address that I want to reference in all of my alerts. That way, if it needs to be changed, I can change it in one spot and all of the alerts will pick up the change. I thought of using a custom node property for this , but it seems like overkill to add a property to thousands of nodes when I really only need to store the value once.

Can this be done? I've searched the NPM forums and not found any information on it.

Maybe the solution jstinson@l1s posted above would help? It'll only solve the email address conundrum.

Perhaps you have an idea for global custom properties! Make a feature request if one does not already exist and link it here. People may vote it up enough that it'd be implemented.

Hello let me know if I'm misunderstanding but itsounds like you want the Configure Default Send Email Action located in settings. Setup the email you want and then use the ${Default} variable for your alerts email address. This will allow you to change the address in the future and all the alerts will use what ever you change the address too. You can also set the CC, BCC, and the reply.

Alternatively, if you need to keep the default email address as is, but want the alerts to go somewhere different, you could create a new Node custom property and use that in the alert email address field.

For example, lets say you create a new custom property called 'AlertEmail'. All you'd need to do is add ${AlertEmail} to the email address list and it should accept it.

An email might be on value that I use across several alerts, but there could a persons name, phone number, a URL, a case number...etc. I might have alerts that have the footer "if you have any questions about this alert, contact ${SOLARWINDS_ADMIN} at ${SOLARWIND_SUPPORT_NUMBER} . If the name or number changes, I would want to just change the variable values.

Another example:

If you receive this alert, open a ticket at the Help Desk site ${ServiceDesk_URL}. Log in with the ${Credentials_Domain} credentials.

Finally, recovery instructions for Tier 1 ( first look ) technicians - "Server ${server_name} name is down. Bounce the server. If that does not work, contact ${tier3_application_admin} at ${tier3_application_admin_phonenumber} .

That would also work. It's picking it all up from the values of the custom properties from the node that triggered the alert.

But then I need to create a customer property for every node and set it to the same value, when all I really need is a single global variable stored in the database in a single row that I can reference from any alert. If I used custom properties, I am creating thousands of unnecessary entries in the database, because I really only need 1.
