Health Sensor for a Ten Gig interface on a Cisco 4503E

Hello!

I am evaluating NPM, and I noticed that the Hardware Health sensor is showing a "Major" state, and "Warning" status for 5 of my 6 10 gig interfaces. The errors are for Bias Current Sensor, and Supply Voltage Sensor. Also a Receive Power sensor for one of the interfaces.

The problem is, only 2 of those interfaces are even being used and shutdown.

How do I get the hardware sensor to stop monitoring 10 gig interfaces that I'm not using?

Yet from what i can see 9/7 interface does not even exist?!

Hi, This comes from fact that Cisco devices report statuses for these sensors even the related interfaces are shutdown. That's the reason why NPM still gets even these sensors.

sorry about bumping old thread, but it comes up as first result in Google so thought it was worth updating.

You can disable monitoring of sensors in the current NPM by going to Settings, All-Settings, Manage hardware sensors.

Then use the filter option to find the bias current sensor (or whatever sensor you want to disable).

Also, make sure it's a bug or issue before disabling.

You could have a failing fiber connection or something. Sh int xx trans details to see if it's actually in the right range.

Also remove GBICs/SFPs that aren't in use.

For me there is a bug in the Cisco ios that reports bad values.

I can fix by upgrading to later ios, but unfortunately I can't get down time for something so minor.

Hello.

I found just one solution: in standart Alert "Alert me when any hardware component goes into a warning or critical state" i suppress any alerts with "Hardware sensor" name does not contain Transceiver Receive Power Sensor or Transceiver Bias Current Sensor.

I was tring to modify it by disabling some devices from list - not success.
