Custom Pollers in Orion Maps?

Hey all,

We are building our own Dark Fiber ring using MRV DWDM gear and I would like to create a map for this environment in Orion. I have created several custom pollers because the MIBs arent supported by 8.5.1SP2 out of the box. One of my pollers gives me link status of one of the ports in this DWDM Fiber Driver chassis. This poller pulls the raw value of the OID (1.3.6.1.4.1.629.200.8.1.1.6.1.4.4) and has an enumeration map associated with it.

My question is this: Is it possible for me to have an object on my MapMaker map that looks to the value of this custom poller? I would like to have an interface object (like the LED) that shows green when the value the custom poller returns is 'signalDetect(3)' and show red when the value is 'noSignal(2)'. I looked through MapMaker, albeit briefly, and did not see anyway to add any object that Orion didn't natively discover. Can this be done?

Sorry, not in the current version. We're considering some enhancements to Map Maker, and allowing objects to be associated with a wider variety of statistics is one of those enhancements. But no ETA.

It's not in v9.0, but it's planned for the follow-on release.

Hi,

I would like to voice my interest in this feature as well. I remember asking about this when we first started using this software about 1.5 years ago. To be blunt, at this point, the lack of it is part of why we are thinking about moving to other options. The general trouble with making good maps using Network Atlas (don't get me started on the 3rd party DLL that controls the labels etc..) is a major pain for me and the other admins, trying to visualize the networks as best as possible. The lack of this "custom poller status in maps" feature makes my latest map only show part of the reality. The operators have to manually access another system, drill down there, to find out what could (I think) could easily be displayed on the same map that shows the rest of the monitoring..

Specifically we are now monitoring a distribution network, all the devices, interfaces and IP SLAs in use are on the map. However, the back bone trunks have IP tunnels running over them, they are defined in software on the terminating nodes..and do not show up using the standard mib on the node object that can be displayed in the map. So I would be able to show the entire interface on the node, yes..but not the specific tunnels..which is the last piece of the puzzle.

People have been requesting this for 3-4 years now, how long for something to wind up on the top of the list, and be implemented? Any news on this feature?
