NPM licensing question

I am sure this has been asked before but I did not find much when I searched for answer.

I inherited and NPM slx and APM slx, but also some client sites that are NPM Sl100, I was under the impression that SolarWinds was per node licensing,

but reading other sites the sl100 is 100 elements. So is anything being monitored  an element?

As an example if I am monitoring 25 servers with 2 NICs each, then I am using 50 elements? if each server has volumes C, & D and are being monitored

then I am using the rest of my 100 license?

One that limit is reached then I am unable to monitor any network switch ports or add any additional servers?

Is there a license esitimator anywhere on Thwack or SolarWinds? After a day of searching I was unable to find anything.

Check out this page http://www.solarwinds.com/network-performance-monitor/resources.aspx and scroll down to Product FAQ. It states what I've listed below so in your example yes you would be using 50 elements but you are actually monitoring 25 servers, 50 interfaces and 50 volumes.

Q: How is SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor licensed? 

A: SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor is licensed by the largest number of the three following element types:

• Interfaces: interfaces include switch ports, physical/virtual interfaces, VLANs
• Nodes: nodes include entire devices (routers, switches, servers, APs)
• Volumes: volumes are equal to the logical disks you monitor

  Network Performance Monitor license options: 

• Up to 100 elements of each type (SL100)
• Up to 250 elements of each type (SL250)
• Up to 500 elements of each type (SL500)
• Up to 2000 elements of each type (SL2000)

Unlimited elements of each type are based on a recommended standard polling rate (SLX). For example: An NPM SL2000 can monitor up to 2000 interfaces + up to 2000 nodes + up to 2000 volumes.
