Serius performance problem after upgrade to NPM 10.4 and SAM 5.2

We just end the upgrade of NPM from 10.3.1 to NPM 10.4 and SAM 5.0.2 to SAM 5.2 the last friday.

After that, the performance has became unacceptable, the site is very slow and in many occasions can´t show the maps

We are restarting the service " Solarwinds.InformationService.ServiceV3.exe*32" each two hours to keep the maps working and we have duplicated the hardware of the Application Server to mitigate the problem, but the performance still very poor.

Application Server (NPM, SAM, Primary poller)

Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64)

Intel Xeon x5650 2.67 GHZ (8 CPU), RAM: 24 GB

Database Server:

Windows Server 2003

SQL Server Enterprise 2005

Intel Xeon x5650 2.67 GHZ (4 CPU), RAM: 4 GB

We need some help, this issue is urgent for us. The case number is #417580.

Your setup seems to be too loaded toward to application server and not enough towards the database server. How many elements are we talking here? I would probably increase the RAM to the DB server and make sure to set the SQL max memory value to ensure that the OS is not starved of RAM. That would be a good place to start. Is the db server a physical or virtual?

Hi Sohail, thanks for your answer.

We have 5020 elements in our Orion, and the database is virtualized. We are evaluating your recommendation, but the S.O. of the Database Server are x32, then we need change the S.O before add more memory RAM.

Before the upgrade the performance was optimal and the hardware resources are the same (in the case of the Aplication Server were less).

Check out the read and write average disk queue lengths for the DB and Log drives on your vm db server. Make sure that there is little to no contention on that storage from other servers in your environment. The speed of the DB's storage will account for much of the speed of the environment.
