LWAPP Support? What do you want to see?

We are looking seriously at supporting Cisco LWAPPs. If we go forward, we would expect to support at least what we have for "thick" or "autonomous" APs. What else would you like to see?

I know you're not shy about asking for you want. Let me hear it.

I personally would like to see support for Aruba's mobility controller over the Cisco lwapp solution.

I'm definitely interested in support for both LWAPPs and the Cisco Wireless Controller series. We only use thick APs at our smaller branch offices...

Glad you asked. :-) Some of my LWAPPs work with a L2 connection directly to the controller (no IP address), and some are H-REAP over L3 in remote offices, so I'll approach my answer from the perspective of being able to gather all the information about all the APs by querying the Cisco WLAN 4400 Series Controller, not by querying the individual LWAPs (which may not be possible from the Orion server). I'll also assume that LWAPP or WLAN Controller support will, at the very least, already contain the same data as the thick APs.

Since users can roam between APs, I should be able to reconstruct a single WLAN session that spans APs from the same controller. On the same note, reporting that will consolidate sessions that span APs into a single item on reports.
AP status - i.e. AP, Repeater, Rogue Container, Sniffer, H-REAP, etc.
If using Cisco location services, plot device locations on a realtime map
Manage controller's MAC / User allow/block lists easily from
Since the WLAN Controller tends to think that almost everything it does is syslog "warning" or "critical", how about some custom alert statuses that cut through the noise?

Suggestion:

It would be a great asset if you could associate site survey images with the device view so that you can click on a link from the device view and launch a pop up with the survey.

On a side note. AirDefense has the ability to connect to the LWAPP controllers and dynamically import all the access points as well as access all the data. If would strongly recommend you look into this functionality. Having Orion obtain this information dynamically would be HOT. It also may put of carpal tunnel syndrome a bit.

So here we are, post 9.5 SP4 with Wireless features.

Where do we stand as far as LWAP's monitoring directly? Do i still just add them as nodes for ICMP only and expect I will get all my info from the Controller Node?

Can you provide some more info. So with 9.5 you can add the controller and via the controller we will poll and display the thin AP's and connected clients.

Is ther a way to add the AP's discovered by the wireless module into site maps? Other than as ICMP devices?

I work in healthcare, some of the ICU equipment vendors have specific requirements for the transmit power of wireless access points. I would like to the see the ability to monitor the tx power on LWAPP's.
