Polling vs. Statistics Collection

Hello!

         I've read previous posts but couldn't clear my mind about the difference between Polling devices and Collecting Statistics from devices. How polling and statistics collection will be define in the given case.

Node: 1 Server

Entity to  Monitor: Free Memory

Alert: Free Memory < 20MB

Polling Interval: 120 seconds

Statistics Collection: 10 minutes

The  Free Memory statistics are also being plotted on graph so, I can see the Free Memory status for the whole day.

Now tell me that

1) When it will populate my graph with new value?

2) When it will trigger the alert?

In this sense, polling is ICMP (ping) and statistics collection is SNMP. From polling we get response time, packet loss, and status (Up/Down). From statistics collection we get everything else, including free memory. You should expect new values for free memory to arrive every 10 minutes or so.
