Hi folks,
I'am new in here. We have had an outage yesterday, but the alert wasn't getting forwarded to the mail group which we usually receive the alerts. How can we find out if the mail forwarding was set up correctly or not?
Thanks
Hi arjun_sl3,
I suppose you're talking about Alert Central, right? Did you check the Admin Guide to see if the configuration of the group email is done accordingly?
Please let me know if you need more help.
Kind regards,
Maria
Sorry Maria, its not about the alert central. To be honest I'm not quite sure the exact version of the tool we are using at the moment, and it doesn't have any alert central tab in it. And I'm not sure how to put the question properly. We had an outage and the alert didn't appear on the solarwinds console when it had happened, how will we check why such an incident with the monitoring tool had happened would be my first question. As and when an alert pops up on the console it should be informed to the technical team via mail, how could we confirm if the alerts for a particular nodes are set up to send out such mails would be my second question. How can we check the exact verison of the software that we are using in?

Ok, So my next guess is Network Performance Monitor. I will move this post to that forum to ensure you get a proper response.
Meanwhile, you can check the Library and Support page for NPM to see if you can find some useful information.
Thank you so much Maria.. appreciate it
If the email alert is being triggered by Solarwinds NPM, Login onto Solarwinds primary poller, search for Advanced Alert Manager, open the alert configured for the same. (Click on Configure Alert -> Check the alert you are interested in -> Click on Edit -> Go to Trigger Actions Tab -> You would see an email alert configured in here)
So you didn't see any problems on the Solarwinds screen? Solarwinds thought everything was ok? If that's the case, check the object that should have gone down in the outage and see what it is polling. Maybe it has an incorrect IP address associated with it.
Great Vinay. So this is how we could check if the email alert has been configured or not.. Thanks Vinay.
Have to check the same and get back to you.

Yep, the solarwinds didn't show up any alert. It was in fact an interface down issue, and nothing could be found from solarwinds regarding that interface down issue. I had checked the event logs in solarwinds too, and found nothing. Have to check how the object has been configured for alerting. Will check and get back.
