Orion Hotfix 3 do not fix the SNMP interface adding issue

Hi All,

I have installed a new ver 8.1 of Orion Network Performance Monitor on the E drive of my server running Windows 2003. Have installed hotfixes 1 to 4. However, even after installing these hotfixes I am not able to add any SNMP enabled interfaces. The error is the same that hotfix 3 was supposed to resolve. Have tried to collect the same information with a standalone utilties called SNMPUtility and Solarwind Engineers Toolset & the data does flow into these utilities. Pls help me with this issue since I have been trying hard to get it resolved. The device I am trying to add is a Bayshore Networks singleKey with the sysobjectID as .1.3.6.1.4.1.12903.900.1. Have also noted that the Engine Status Polling Engine Down under the Admin section even though the poller is running. Pls also take a look at the attached gif file.

If the Hotfix did not work I would encourage you to submit a support ticket. One suggestion would be to try to add the device through it’s hostname, then once added, go into the devices Node Details and change the IP Address to read correctly.

Thanks for the prompt response mark........however the problem is that this device is kind of a firewall which does not have a particular hostname and it can be only be connected by it's ip address. Any other resolution that you could think of would be really helpful. And moreover as reported in the initial psot, why does the Engine Status shows as to be down on the Orion webinterface. Is it a false message or is it for true.

As to the Polling Engine status on the website, it is likely false. The best method to see if the polling engine is running is to look at the Polling Status window from the Systgem Manager. For your interface monitoring on the Bayshore device your best course of action is to open a ticket. Looking at a sniffer trace of the communications involved when adding the device will give the support team a good idea of what may be going wrong in your case.

Thanks Ishikawa for the reply. As per your advice, I have managed to capture packets between Solarwind Engineers Toolset-Bayshore Device & Orion Solarwind-Bayshore Device. The difference that I was able to make out was that in the first scenario i.e Solarwind Engineers Toolset-Bayshore Device... the source port was 3851 and the destination was 161 (bayshore device) & the device did reply back with the appropriate values. However, in the second scenario, the the source port was 1744 and the destination was 161 (bayshore device) and ethereal was able to capture packets from the device to Orion server with the ICMP error code 3...destination unreachable...port unreachable. Note that both Orion and toolset are on one server and the windows firewall is disabled on this server. What is the usual source/destination port does orion use to/from a SNMP enabled device?...And can it be changed? And can u pls check the attached Polling Status screenshot and tell me whether polling is indeed happening.
