Assign Appinsight template to multiple nodes

Hi All,

Is there a way to automatically assign an appinsight template to a group of servers? I tried 'assign to group' via SAM - Manage templates, but it tells me that 'unfortunately appinsight templates cannot be assigned to groups at this time' ... Not sure this can be enabled somehow? I noticed when I list resources on a node with Exchange (for instance), there is a checkbox for AppInSight for Exchange, so potentially I could script that via the powershell plugin - but was not sure what's the best way to do that actually?

I've used the Network Discovery pathway and can confirm that works fine in bulk.

Has anything changed since? I am also looking at similar scale - i.e. 200-300 servers in total we would like to have AppInSight templates assigned to.

Keep in mind there will be alot of manual work after doing this to so many objects.

For SQL you will need to update non-default ports, assign proper credentials etc.

For IIS you will need to unmanage dead/stopped sites. Most likely you will also need to run the PowertShell configuration manually (Edit Template for each gray server, test n' configure shenanigans).

There is no doubt that depending on the OS you are deploying to, you will run into other little issues that are fixed by changing the template polling options (32bit/64bit, Agent, RPC etc.)

Thanks Adam. I guess I'll try to use network discovery first. Unfortunately I am not desperate enough to reverse engineer those web calls, since I need to add AD / Exchange templates, not IIS.

Thanks for feedback hpstech . Luckily I have AD / Exchange templates to add only, but "a lot of manual work" sounds like spot on definition of Solarwinds in a large environment.

Hopefully I don't have modify the template options, because if so... ugh.
