LCV, PCV, errors and slips ...

Hi All -

I'd love to be able to collect statistics on line code and path violations on our point to point interfaces, but am having a hard time writing a custom poller. Basically, anything that's in dsx1AlmCnfGrpEntry ... currently, the readout on interface errors is pretty generic and doesn't help when I'm troubleshooting withe the LECs. When I try to test when selecting the OID, I get the error "A value was not returned!" and I'm unable to proceed with creating a custom poller ...

... maybe if there's 0 in the counter, no value is returned? We have been working really hard over here to make sure we're LCV and PCV error free on our circuits, so I'm hard pressed to find interfaces where the counters might be incrementing. The conundrum is that I need me and my staff to know right away when they are happening and I can get quality assurance tickets opened on those circuits.

If what's returned is a 0, there is a value returned. The "no value returned" you are seeing is most likely because dsx1AlmCnfGrpEntry is a reference to a table of values, rather than an individual value. If you use the getNext option, you should get the next actual value returned. That's probably not really what you want though - the table is going to be indexed by the interface with the first value being the index of the first interface. The values in that table are alarm thresholds and it sounds like that's not what you are looking for. Try this table:

To get a clearer picture of what's being returned, use the SNMP MIB Walk tool in the engineers toolset - that will show you all the values being returned by snmp. You can find these specific tables in the output and then you'll know exactly what you need to use for your custom poller.

I was aware that was a reference to a table of values. What I meant to express in my first message was that was the result I get when I hit any of the OIDs referenced by the table.
