Monitoring Netflow Service

Hi,

NetFlow service is not starting automatically (set to Auto) and Recovery tab is set to restart. I have created a case with SolarWinds support but no luck! I am trying to find a way to monitor this service and receive alerts until this issue is resolved. I looked at the APM admin guide but only I was able to see windows services and not third party application services (example: NetFlow). Could someone please help.

Hello,

It's called a Windows service monitor however it can monitor any service on a Windows server. The name is trying to focus on that you can use this on a Windows server. Take a look at this page from the admin guide.

What do you mean by "third party application services"? If you want to be alerted when the NetFlow Traffic Analyzer service stops you can create an application template for this service using "Find Processes, Services and Windows Performance Counters" under APM settings. Select "Services" and the machine where this service is running. From there it will ask you if you want to create a new Application Template or add to an existing Application Template. This is your choice but I would recommend creating a new template.

Once the template is created you can assign the template to the node to begin monitoring.

The Advanced Alert Manager comes with a default alert to notify you when an application or component monitor stops. Ensure that this alert is enabled and configured properly to receive notifications when this service is stopped.

Thanks for quick reply. I tried the recommonded steps but the NetFlow service is not showing up in service panel to be selected.

Thanks Jason, here is the case number: 265083

The tech support is recommending to take the following steps (they haven't seen this issue before and they are only suggesting and not sure if this will resolve the issue). This is our prod server and I really don't want to test these steps unless we know it'll fix the issue. Thanks in advance for your help

To repair the Job Engine:

1. Stop the Job Engine, Job Scheduler, and Orion Module Engine services on the main polling engine

2. Browse to Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Job Engine\Data folder -- and DELETE the jobengine35.sdf

* For Windows 2008 – the Path is Program Data\Users\SolarWinds \JobEngine\Data

3. Browse to Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolarWinds\Installers

* For Windows 2008 – the path is Program Data\Users\SolarWinds\Installers

and run the SSCERuntime-ENU-x86.msi and follow the prompts to REPAIR (takes about 10 seconds)

4. In the same folder - Run the JobEngine.msi and follow the prompts to REPAIR

5. Restart the Orion Module Engine (The other two services should’ve started manually)
