I have a node, a SIP firewall, that won't allow ICMP ping but does allow SNMP Polling. I need to disable ICMP checks in the system for this node as it constantly shows up down.
Is this possible?
Not today, we only get node availability and status via ICMP. We have an enhancement in the system to add this same option for SNMP only.
Any progress on this enhancement? We also have a few nodes that block ICMP.
Any news if this has been added to 10.4?
A work around (if you have SAM) is to mark this as an external node (ie: no ICMP) and then pull the SNMP counters you want manually via SAM. It's kind of tedious (because SAM's SNMP counters aren't the greatest) but if what you need is simple it may get you what you want.
I'm curious about the SIP firewall not taking ICMP request. This sounds like it's just a feature, and you should be able to turn this on. I'm not to aware of many companies if any that will modify the TCP/IP stack just to pull out ICMP support. This is most likely a firewall feature that is on by default that should be able to be turned off.
What type of SIP firewall is this? Is it an SBC? (Session Border Controller)
Just curious.. But what stated about using the External Node setting will work perfectly.
We had a similar problem and just stood up an instance of Nagios for the few systems we couldn't monitor with Orion. It is a pain having two systems doing the monitoring, but it works.
Looks like SolarWinds is working on this: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/2868
