I am having problems setting up the APM to monitor our websites. We host multiple websites but am only focusing on our test website for now. It is my understanding that when I use the HTTP Monitor (default template located under the User Experience templates), I am required to assign it to an existing node. The website is then checked as if I was logged onto that node using IE. I assinged the HTTP monitor to my SolarWinds server node. From SolarWinds I can get to the website and when I shut down the website services I can not access the website. The problem is that the APM never shows the website going down. From troubleshooting with SolarWinds, they determined that our proxy returns a response which is why the APM never goes to a down status. The response is not the website but rather a built in response that redirects users to our internal website if they type in a bad URL. For example, if I type in badurl.com, I will be redirected to a search page provided by the company that tells you the URL was not valid and gives some suggested to find the website you are looking for. This tells me that the APM doesn't actually monitor the URL link but rather for any response from the website. I need a way for this to work without changing our Proxy. Providing a help page for users when they type a bad URL is better than a user just getting a webpage can't be displayed message. I am sure our company is not the only one that does this.
