Agent Based Service Polling

Good Morning,

We have some servers with very sensitive information, so most of their ports are blocked off.For this reason we have agents deployed to monitor if they are up or not.However I need to also monitor some services to make sure they are running.

While exploring the node using SW APM the service control manage tries to engage using a wmi call which wont work. This got me thinking, is there a way to get this information from the agent instead?

This would help me since I could create some alerting for critical services on these servers.

Yes, I would create a new Application Template using Windows Service Monitors as the component monitor, configure each one using the correct NetService Name, within the additional properties of the template you can specify Agent Based polling.

Then apply it to the Node you are wanting to monitor.

Bingo.

Or at least, that is how I do it and for the same Security based reasons

Alright, i got the preferred polling method as Agent but my test keeps giving me an unable to connect for wmi access.

I tried an RPC fetching method as well

Well, that is odd.

That is how mine looks and all is as I would expect. I haven't seen the WMI issue previously.

If you go to Settings > Manage Agents can you find your node and it all OK?

How is the node managed in Orion. What you describe sounds suspiciously like an ICMP, SNMP, or WMI managed node that just so happens to have an agent installed. You will need to change the polling method of the node to use the Agent, then things such as the Service Control Manager and such should begin functioning without issue.
