CMDB CI relationships through Solarwinds - Solarwinds-ServiceNow Integration

Just curious if the Updated version of SolarWinds is capable of giving CMDB CI relationships Information?

I just watched a video on PerfStack where we have an option to get the Node Relationships, that clearly means that SW maintains CI Relationship Database somewhere.

We are working on SolarWinds - ServiceNow CMDB integration in which we are able to get the CMDB data but missing on CI relationships.

Is it possible to get CI relationships from SolarWinds in order to make the SolarWinds-ServiceNow integration complete.

You could have a custom property updated via SWIS API from Service-now, theoretically? I never got around to testing this and I'm not in a service-now environment anymore. I believe Jfrazier or bluefunelemental might have been at companies that use service-now?

In our case, we used the node as the CI as our servicenow implementation was new.

The relationships you are speaking of, are they maintained in ServiceNow or Solarwinds ?

Is there a mechanism to sync them up ? Depending on how you have things built/implemented, you may have to script up a tool to sync those relationships.

That will become an ongoing maintenance item...

I've done a manually mapping through SWIS to SN custom API which is now being replaced by the out of box SN Identification and Reconciliation API.

Its not a simple process and I would encourage either Solarwinds to productise this or for you to consider SN discovery and/or service watch.

If you do undertake it I'll offer some advise but everyone's environment is so different I would not expect any of my code to work.

There are SO many relationships to map between Solarwinds and ServiceNow but you mention Perfstack so let's start there:

node

node to volumes

node to interfaces

node to application monitor

the first two would be table relationships in SN where you build both records then on the child record, volumes let's say, you populate wiith the parent record. just finished node-interfaces-multiple IP's integration.

The last relationship is a business service mapping and held in the cmdb_rel_cI table with parent child type columns from memory.

if you can match an application to a business service in cmdb then parent app, child node, type depends:depends on or something would build a bsm relationship.

the CMDB contains whatever you define as a CI, so I can see why this would get confusing

Yup.

Just insstalled SRM module and now we need to map those into service now. Argh.

Find physical array in SN and Solarwinds and map those first by serial, ip, or serial.

work through the abstract relations on each and map those.

end goal - make a change request for a netapp array and service now will tell you which servers, vm,hosts and apps are affected.

Just wondering if there was ever any progress on this. We're currently looking at the feasibility of updating relationships from Solar Winds to ServiceNow.
