Configuring HP Procurve 5300/2800

Good Morning

I am evaluating Network Performance Monitor and NetFlow Traffic Analyzer

I am having a bugger of a time setting up the NetFlow Traffic Analyzer with one of my HP switches. Has anyone configured this before and possibly give me some direction. I've called HP Procurve and they weren't really that helpful. They sent me a doc with commands (sflow) that don't work.

Using net-snmp may allow you to batch-issue the commands - if you want to try, install it on your box and try following the instructions in the document I attached. By issuing the commands from a separate box, you don't have to do one command at a time in a console window.

The long and short of it is that the 2800 series is not awesome for sFlow and is designed with a hobbled functionality, since it was only 'designed' to export sFlow with PCM.

Hi there - I'm attaching a file I used to successfully configure sFlow on some 2800-series switches with success.

I've managed to get the parameters for the switch to be correct

for these commands

snmpset -v1 -c Public 10.2.1.167 1.3.6.1.4.1.14706.1.1.5.1.4.11.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1.1.1 i: 50

Does the IP address refer to 10.2.1.167 refer to the NetFlow Analyzer server or the switch?

It refers to the switch. What you're trying to do is set sampling/polling rates for each interface.

Which part of this 1.3.6.1.4.1.14706.1.1.5.1.4.11.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.1.1.1 refers to the switch port? The last decimal?

Also it says in that doc that the switch will stop exporting sflow data after awhile...did you experience this?

No apologies necessary - happy to assist where I'm able.

The second-to-last decimal refers to the interface.

I did not experience the exportation stop that you refer to....I read all about it and expected it, but it never came. I think it's possible that this issue may have been resolved in later revs of code.

Should I be able to run the snmpset command right on the switch under #config

when I do I get "invalid input: snmpset"
