How do I use SNMP community strings to add nodes to a SAM group with a scheduled network sonar discovery?

Hello Thwackers,

I have been trying to do this for a couple hours, and I am kinda confused. I have not found a end to end description to what seems to be a normal task.

This is what I want to do:

1. Set SNMP strings on RHEL6 nodes like linux_workstation, linux_server, linux_webserver, etc. (done)

2. Create groups for each type of nodes from 1. (done)

3. Create Sonar Discoveries that run daily to locate new nodes with the given SNMP strings from 1 that flow in to the groups in 2. (stuck)

I would bet a nickel that there is a guide on this, but I can't seem to find it in a reasonable time frame.

Unfortunately that is not how Network Sonar Discovery works today. There is only one scheduled discovery results repository, and the results from the last scan always overwrite the previous scan results. So if you built three distinct scheduled discoveries "A", "B", and "C", and ran them in that order, you would only ever see the results of "C" since that was the last one to run.

While as aLTeReGo mentions, this isn't the design of the discoveries, you can setup your Groups using dynamic queries that scan the database in search of nodes that match a specific set of criteria. You can use this as you use discoveries to add new devices in order to have them add into the groups. It's not exactly what you're looking for, but may be able to at least help what you are trying to achieve.
