Remove NetPath Probes

What is the proper method to remove NetPath probes from Orion? I have some nodes that I no longer use as probes and would like to remove them from the list of probes. I've seen where I can edit the database to remove them from the list but I can't imagine this would remove the plug-in from the agent on the server so it doesn't seem like that would be the "proper" method. Does aLTeReGo have any tips?

Are you using the agent for anything else on those nodes besides Netpath?

Yes, just normal server statistics monitoring.

To my knowledge, there the only way to remove a NetPath probe is to delete the agent itself. If you were using that Agent for other monitoring, that's really not an ideal solution. There may be a way of removing this capability in the database that I'm not aware of. cobrien is the resident expert for all things NetPath. He may know a way of removing NetPath probes without deleting the Agent entirely.

The only way to remove is delete the agent and readd it without adding a NetPath destination to the agent. Why would you like to remove it? It's not doing anything unless a path is configured involving it.

I don't like having a list full of probes that aren't used anymore, and while the database change technically works it just doesn't seem like a "clean" method. If there is no impact from leaving that installed on the agent then I guess it's not a huge deal.

Hey Chris, I wanted to resurrect this for a moment. Over time I've deployed the NetPath probe on a few extra servers in a pinch for testing, but now they aren't needed. It would useful to be able to remove the NetPath probe without completely ripping out the agent. Being able to remove clutter from the list is never a bad thing.

I'd like to know as well - we had all of our NetPath Probes stop reporting data but cannot find the root cause.

Only an agent removal (including probe) and re-install followed by a re-configuration resolves the issues.
