SAM Server Down but is not

Have another issues with SAM we have a server that is in the system (SAM) and we are able to remote into the server and see it in Vcentre.

The problem is that in SAM it says the server id down, we have gone into services.msc and restarted the wmi, and smnp services to no avail

I have also restarted the server just this morning thinking this may fix it but still getting the same alert, the server is down but it is not

we have about 8 in unknown and some where also saying Down but are not down

Is this a known issue? and no matter what we do just keeps saying Down.

we also have another server Identical the the one that is down but its fine no issues at all

I have compared the 2 as much a s possible for settings etc and really there are no differences

Up/Down is a status dictated by ICMP response (by default).

Have you tried to RDP to your SolarWinds server and then ping the "down" device from there? What you are describing sounds like a network issue, usually a problem with an ACL blocking ICMP packets or a routing issue.

To add to what Zack said, if ICMP is blocked on this node for any particular reason and it is added as an SNMP node in SAM, you can click on 'List Resources' for that node and choose to determine availability purely via SNMP.
