Using Server and Application manager for software licensing compliance

Hi Everyone,

Very new to Solarwinds - SAM. I've been watching videos and reading about SAM. My main goal is to use SAM for Hardware and Software configurations as well as licensing compliance issues. Using the network sonar tool, will it report back the licenses of the software currently installed on the Machine? For example, I would like to know how many Office 2013 licenses, MSSQL licenses as well as other 3rd party licenses are installed on our machines. Hopefully I can be more prepared if we ever have a software audit.

Is there a video or document I can read on how this is best accomplished? I've found tidbits here and there but nothing concrete for what I'm wanting to accomplish.

You could get this from a PowerShell script pointed at your devices in your environment, but I'm not coming up with a way to integrate that kind of survey with SAM. Maybe someone else will jump in here.

With SAM, there is what is called an Asset Inventory tab in the Node Details screen of the Server. This will list all of the installed software on the machine. You can also run a "Software Inventory Report" (see below), which is an out of the box report that returns the application name, publisher, version, and number of installed copies(across your entire network or atleast the devices you have added to SAM). I didn't want to air our dirty laundry over the internet, so I erased some of the results from the column, but you can get the picture.

The software inventory report is very useful, however I'm missing one crucial piece... The actual licenses of the software that's installed. I fiddled around with the reports for a while but couldn't find the actual license keys.

Does anyone know where I can find those?

Maybe an additional 3rd party program is needed such as Lansweeper? Seems silly to gather all this info without the license keys. They've got to be here somewhere...

Ok, I didn't know you were looking to pull the actual keys. Like Steven said, if this is possible, it would have to be done via a custom powershell script. I found a powershell script that you can run locally to pull the key for SQL(see below), but I am not 100% sure you can run it remotely from your SAM Server. Steven K. would know if this is possible or not.
