Does Network Performance Monitor or other Solarwinds module have a method to convert traps into alerts even if the node sending the alert has not been discovered by Solarwinds? We have a group which doesn’t want their systems monitored directly by Solarwinds but they do not mind sending SNMP traps to indicate a service outage. I can’t assume any trap from any source is a critical service outage so I would like to convert specific traps to alerts if they meet certain conditions, similar to the way alerts are defined by events. I haven't found any evidence that log and event manager has this feature.
I see how you can you can:
- send an email notification based from an SNMP trap
- or you can change the status of an interface
but I don't see a way to generate an alert based upon an SNMP trap from an unmanaged system (not discovered).
When you create a new alert under "Manage Alerts", you must associate the alert with some group; such as a node, application, component, interface, volume, etc. I don't think those would help since these nodes are not in the Solarwinds database.
Any suggestions?
