User Scenario \ Troubleshooting Actual Problems

Hi All,

I am just wondering on how I can interpret the data being shown in solarwinds -- in SAM to be specific. For example, I can see that HTTP and SSL have high application response time.

Basically, how do I know what causes this high app response time? Forgive my ignorance,  but I still don't have a very clear idea about this.

The QoE sensor is not going to give you that info, it is just a measurement of approximate end user waits, a symptom not a cause.  You would presumably also have the SAM Appinsight for IIS template running on that server which should have performance metrics for almost anything in IIS and hopefully that gives you a clue.  For the most part Solarwinds is rarely going to tell you why things aren't working right or what you should do to improve them. Their default thresholds and templates usually give some ballpark descriptions about what might be the causes of problems but you have to know what you are looking at to really act on it.  Looks at the performance counters on the web server for signs about what is going on, if those all look good then maybe there is a slowdown in the database/storage that feeds the website.  If you have all those things being monitored and have all the applicable solarwinds products you should be able to stitch all the pieces together.
