Oh MIB's Where art thou?

Sup party people!

I am searching for ESXI 6.5 MIB location.

The only docs I can find from VMware KB says it is /usr/share/snmp/mibs. However, that is not the location on my host.

I have been doing some digging and I am lead to believe that PERHAPS HP stripped down the ISO that we are using for installs?

The file I used to install esxi on my hosts.

VMware-ESXi-6.5.0-Update2-9298722-HPE-Gen9plus-650.U2.10.3.5.5-Sep2018.iso

I know where to find the MIBs on the vmware website:(VMware Knowledge Base )

but it is lacking the details as to WHERE to put the files.

The ultimate goal here is for me to monitor the hardware temperature on the hosts via SNMP (with SAM).

I am hoping someone here will have had a similar question in the past and can point me in the right direction.

I did contact support about this and we did screen sharing and they could not find out why I am having this issue. They suggested I contact HP. HP suggested I contact VMware and Vmware suggested I contact HP. (so here I am looking for help)

Look somewhere around 1.3.6.1.4.1.6876. If you don't find it I can look more when I get a mo.

This is the correct location to find them, but I am talking about where are they on the ESXI host? I am suspecting that the HP version of the VMWARE ISO is missing the MIBs.

Please correct me if I am wrong because there is a lot of "ASSUMING" going on here.

When I try to add a poller with Solarwinds, I get "The OID is not supported" message on these hosts. (when using a standard Temperature MIB -- It works on my other physical servers (that are not ESXI hosts).

Are you monitoring the host for virtualization data as well?

Hmm, good question. I guess we are, it's in Vmanager (and Vman is integrated with NPM).

Although, I am only interested in the Temperature monitoring and alerting for now.

UPDATE: I am trying to get an HP engineer to take a closer look for me.

Also, It was advised to STOP using the HP version of the ESXI installer. No reason was given, but I have a gut feeling that they know this modified version is missing a few things.

Okay, so I am not sure why Support wasn't able to suggest a better way of doing this. I guess you get what you ask for, and I was asking how to monitor the temp with SNMP on ESXI hosts (on HP hardware).

The solution is\was: NOT SNMP!

I was adding a new node myself and was surprised that there was an option for VMWare polling.

So, I had delete all of my hosts (because it would not allow me to change polling type on the existing nodes) and re-add them with choosing VMWare as the polling option.

It works!, I can now see about 30+ Temperature sensors on my hosts.

Now, the real trickery begins, how to setup an alert for these fields. So far, the only way I can get all of this data in one place is from a report. It doesn't appear to be as easy as selecting "Hardware Sensor" in the alert setup.

UPDATE: I thought it worked, but after the initial POLL, no new data was ever received. Support tried and tried but could never put humpty back together again.
