Command Output in a Widget

Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a way I can put a certain command's output in a widget or somehow display it in the node details page of each device? For instance, and this isn't the exact command, but let's say I want the output of sh ntp associations to be displayed at each Cisco device's node page, how can I do that and have it run the command on regular basis too?

There are options. For example, start with the page you'd like to modify.

Customize (Edit) page
Add Widgets
Custom Query > Drag to the position on the page you want
Done Adding Widgets
Done Editing
Edit Custom Query
Past in SWQL query from SDK
Click “Enable Search” if you wish
Set number of rows per page
Submit

Or choose another option besides Custom Query, or choose a different page (a Node's page instead of your front NPM page, etc.), or select a different Widget besides Custom Query.

Instead of Custom Query, try Execute Script. You'll get a dropdown with possible scripts to choose associated with NCM's Firmware Upgrade feature.

It feels like the ability to customize is unlimited.

Thank you for your recommendation, can I achieve this with SWQL? I tried the execute script in the past but I have to do that every time and then saves it somewhere else, what I need is for it to show the output every time on the spot, basically I would set it up to execute sh ntp associations and the widget would show only the output on its own, I can't figure out how.

tigerr There are a few ways to do this, but it will depend on what products you are running in your environment. NCM would be the easiest, and most well suited for this task.

In NCM, you could create a new config type (running, startup, shntp?). You would set the NCM job to run that command as often as you need it to update. That would get the results/output stored into the database. Then you should be able to pull that data, either SWQL or SQL, which can be put onto the node details page using the "WHERE NodeID=${NodeID}" option.

With a bit more detail, there really shouldn't be any issue(s) getting this working. Get some more information here, and I'm sure a path to a working solution would soon follow.

You have asked a question about how to achieve something using a tool in a way that blatantly does not fit its paradigm.

This is not really the NPM way; the way NPM expects you to do this is to define a UnDPthat polls the correct MIB and then a widget to display the returned values. NTPv4 MIB - Cisco

The NCM way would be to hack something up, since this is not a configuration issue.

this may be the SAM way, but I don't use SAM so I've no idea...

@wluther I'm not very good with queries, I have created a sample script execution job but I don't know what table to call for to get that output information for each node from? Can you give me an example query featuring any simple Cisco show command, please?

Yeah, I may have posted this in the wrong section, either way it would be nice if I could get something like this working!
