I have set up an Application Monitor with a File Existence Monitor. When testing against the node against which it will be running it fails with this message.

Testing on node XXXX: failed with 'Undefined' status

The network name cannot be found.

The path for the file is set with the name of the node. It also fails when i put the IP address in the path or the IP address variable in the path.

Can you post a screenshot of how the component monitor is configured? Also, have you tried mapping a drive on the Orion APM server to the path entered into the component monitor? Also, I would verify the credentials you're using in the component monitor have permission to access the network share and the file you're trying to monitor remotely. 

As a last ditch effort change the path of the file to "C:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe" to ensure the component monitor is working at its most basic level. If this passes then return the component monitor to its default configuration of "\\${IP}\c$\Windows\System32\notepad.exe" and attempt monitoring a remote host. This too should pass, provided notepad.exe exists in the System32 folder under Windows. This is the default location of notepad.exe for Windows Server 2008 machines.
