Getting msi 1720 error!!!

Hi, I'm trying to install cirrus 3.5 DEMO. I have a XP Pro SP2, firewall & anti-virus/spyware are all turned off, but still getting "msi error 1720" It says,

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Custom action...."

The error pops up while the installer is removing backup files, than the error occurs.

I tried removing, modifying, & reinstalling the prog and rebooting the PC, nothing works. Scanned my HDD, ran registry cleaner, and tried reinstalling, same error pops up.

I tried installing it on my laptop (XP Pro SP2) and that went fine without a glitch. So, I know the installer is good. Can anyone help me out??

Also, when I try to run Configuration Management, I get:

"Cannot start ConfigMgmntEngine8.dll 429 : ActiveX component can't create object."

Can anyone help me out??

will need to re-register the following .dll to fix the 429 runtime error

regsvr32 "c:\program
files\solarwinds\common\swdiscoveryServices8.dll"

Just copy the above command - (copy, paste, ok) - into the run window on the
server (start > run).

The 1720 is a file missing on the OS I believe-

I followed your copy/paste instructions, but that file doesn't exist in that folder. What does exist in Configuration Management folder was swdiscoveryServices9.dll and CirrusSWDiscoveryServices8.dll.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, had to run.

Well, I've tried applying both applications and it that was a NoGo. I will try and find out if running a repair for my OS can remedy my 1720 error.

Thanks again for responding to my plea, I really do appreciate your effort. Let me know if you have anymore ideas for the 429 run error.
